Gran Fondo Moab- 60 miles/ 5500 feet of climbing. Gran Fondo means “Big Ride” This route may not be big in distance but it is truly a memorable ride if not downright epic. After completing the Gran Fondo Moab I think you will agree it is a “Big Ride” and very challenging. You will be left tired and spent! After riding many events in the states and Europe I still find this route to be in my top 5 rides. You will not find the spectacular views and terrain this course has to offer in many events anywhere. The Gran Fondo Moab route is what will make this event memorable.
The event will start at Moab’s SpringHill Suites by Marriott located north of the Colorado River Bridge in Moab at 1865 North HWY 191. Please ride to the event start as there is limited parking available. If you need to drive we would recommend parking at Lions Park on the corner of HWY 191 and HWY 128.
Lunch-Results-Awards will be at Old City Park on Saturday starting at 12:00 AM .
Event Finish: *** Start and Finish are not the same places***
The route finish is at Old Spanish Trail road after a steep uphill. You will then go around a round about for a short sprint to the finish line. The finish is near Old City Park 4 miles south of town. The beautiful 21 acres park is located on Old City Park Road in Spanish Valley. There will be a finish aid station located at the park with light refreshments, water and sports drinks. Lunch will start at 12:00 also at Old City Park. It is a 4 mile mostly downhill ride back into town. (if you ride back to town your total mileage for the day will be around 65 miles) The best way back to town and is via Spanish Valley Drive.
Route Time Limits: 6 Hour Time Limit (8 am- 2 pm)
The Course is open from 8am- 2pm with timing. If you do not make it to the Finish Line before 2 PM your time will be listed as 6+ Hours. Due to the finish having a Closed Road we need to have it reopened to traffic by 2 pm. All Sag wagon and Police support will still be on the course after 2 pm to help any riders.
We are encouraging you to ride and race to the high point of the ride at the Geyser Pass Road turnoff. The top five men and woman will be timed to the KOM/QOM at Geyser Pass. The first male and female riders to the top will get $100.00. This is at 42.40 miles from the start. There will be some fun downhills before this last climb. After Geyser Pass turnoff there is a super steep curvy downhill back to town. We DO NOT want you to take risks with your speed on this section. You will get an accurate time for your complete ride to Old City Park. Please descend safely and in full control and remember there will be oncoming traffic on the entire 20 mile downhill until just before the finish.
**Every rider will get one raffle ticket. We have great prizes for the raffle even if you do not make it to the top of the mountain in record times.
BRING YOUR RAFFLE TICKET TO LUNCH.
